Homer Alumni Association Scholarship

The Homer Alumni Association Scholarship has been established for the purpose of providing scholarships to Homer Community Schools graduating seniors and graduates who seek postsecondary educational opportunities. Funds may be used for expenses incidental to attaining educational objectives, including, but not limited to: tuition, fees, books, housing, testing, transportation, or child care.

Two Scholarships are awarded annually in the name of Dewayne Ballentine and the Class of 1959

Dewayne Ballentine was a Homer graduate and founding father of the Homer Alumni Association.  He served as a board member and started the annual banquet.  This scholarship was set up in his memory in 1985.

The Class of 1959 Scholarship began in 2019 by class members and friends, in honor of their 60th anniversary to recognize Homer Community Schools for providing them a quality education.

Kathy Hickerson-Mills Scholarship Fund

The Kathy Hickerson-Mills Scholarship Fund was established by her family after her death in 2010, for the purpose of providing scholarships to Homer Community Schools graduating seniors pursuing postsecondary educational opportunities, including apprenticeship and certificate programs, at Kellogg Community College who do NOT rank in the top 10 of graduating seniors. Funds may be used for expenses incidental to attaining educational objectives, including, but not limited to: tuition, fees, books, housing, testing, transportation, or childcare.

Kathy was a long-time employee in the Homer Community School System. Kathy’s attitude and presence added to the learning environment for the student body and staff at HHS, and for that she will always be remembered. This special scholarship was first given in 2011.  The Board of Directors of the Alumni Association is honored to have been asked to govern this scholarship.
