Attendance/Truancy FAQ's

Listed on this page are some Frequently Asked Questions about Attendance and Truancy.

If you have questions about your son/daughter's attendance, please contact your child's classroom teacher (if your child attends the elementary school) or contact the Middle School/High School office.

1.  Why did I receive an attendance/truancy letter?

You received a letter because your son/daughter has reached 10 or more days of absence from school.  Days include     excused and unexcused absences.

2.  I have called in my son/daughter's absence, doesn't that excuse them?

Yes, it excused them for the absence; however, when they reach the 10 or more day threshold, that causes a concern.

We appreciate you taking the responsibility to communicate and notify us with your child(s) illness, but this does not exempt them from excessive absence.

Please note that excessive absences include excused and unexcused absences.

3.  I have been reported to the CISD for truancy, what is the next step?

You need to remember that truancy is a process.  If your son/daughter continues to miss days of school, excused or unexcused, the school has an obligation to report them for further action. See the flow chart below for the step by step process.
